If my hubby can build 5 more coops, I will get 5 more breeds
It's so much fun to watch each breed, they are very unique.
I love colorful eggs, so I have 4 breeds now - bantam faverolles (pinkish eggs), marans (dark brown), Ameraucanas (blue eggs) and orpingtons (light brown eggs).
I have 13 breeds (and counting...) and everyone seems to do fine together - bantam vs standard, etc. I tried to pick breeds that were noted to be fairly "docile" and not too flighty. Ironically, my biggest bully is my blue silkie chick - who is not being very welcoming to my latest - rock barred, Delaware and GLW.
I also have birds that are all within 3 months of each other's age - all young birds. I figured introductions while everyone is still young would have a likelier/easier success rate that introducing adults.
i've been researching all the different breeds...WOW, there are some really wild & wonderful looking birds to choose from. i'll report back when i've narrowed my search down a bit to get all your expert opinions. it'll be hard to choose, there are so many different varieties. thanx for the advice so far.
this is gonna be fun !!!
I raise a few different breeds, but all seperated. Not only do you get a diverse flock but you get to talk to all kinds of people too when you buy and/or go to shows!
