I just put out a few bowls of oyster shells and refill as necessary. With around 80 hens, I go through about 4-5 50# bags a year. During down times it can be weeks before I need to fill them.

I also at times bring out crushed eggshells and dump them on the ground as my hens seem to love eggshells.

I feed an All Flock year round. If I'm raising chicks or integrating them I also put out a non medicated starter grower because my all flock is a pellet. As soon as the young ones can swallow a pellet I stop putting out my starter grower, which generally is around 5-6 months of age.

I use straw and it's pretty thick. It's stopped now so I guess it was just something with a new laying hen.
