I have a chick that is a little bit over 1 day old. It just started holding her leg out mostly when she stands. What should I do about it? Is There anything? If I pick it up and rub on her she acts fine and her leg doesn't feel weird.

She's still hopping around when she gets up. It's strange, because I've massaged her little leg and she doesn't act like she is in any pain. She even tries to use it, but mostly just holds it out if she gets up. If she lays down with it stuck out to the side, she will let me put it under her like her other leg. (?)

Google 'spraddle leg' and then make her a manacle to put the leg back where it should be or she will end up permanently lame. Don't worry, it's soooo easy to do and fixes them in a day or two, I promise! x

You REALLY need to manacle this baby. It's not a 'kill or cure' just a very simple cure and it's not fair to leave the little mite to struggle when fixing it is so easy xx It will likely find a way round its disability, nature is an amzing thing, but there is no need when in 24 to 48 hours, you could have it back to right as ninepence!

I really think it's her knee. Idk. i used a strip of a bandaid to make a manacle though. We'll see. I just worry.
I told my husband I might have to carry her around for a couple days

I agree with the swelling and redness that it is a knee/joint problem. it could be a slipped tendon... if so, it has to be fixed very quickly or it starts to grow improperly and may not be recoverable. if it is a slipped tendon, she will not bear any weight on that leg at all. you can try and hold her on just 1 foot and see if she will stand or press on your hand with it. also the leg will never straighten with a slipped tendon, it will be bent always (tendon too short almost).

if so, you can read about how to correct a slipped tendon here - Poultry Podiatry:

this video helped me understand how exactly it has to be put back on:
