  • Leak-free horizontal nipple design
  • Hand crafted metal mounting bracket keeps drinker in place
  • Mount onto wood with enclosed screws / No need for bulky cinder blocks or hanging chains

The QCU Poultry 1 Gallon Drinker is the ideal water solution for inside your coops and chick brooders. The clear plastic lets you see exactly how much water is in each bottle. The metal mounting bracket is designed to be screwed onto any wood surface with no worries about it being tipped over. The narrow profile discourages perching on top. Just like our 38oz Drinker Bottle, chicks and adult birds are attracted to the red color of the nipple and with a little encouragement will take to this clean water system easily (We do use our 38oz. QCU Poultry Drinker Cup for super tiny babies like quail for 7-10 days because their beaks are too small to nudge the pin)

Chicks - Show your babies where the water is like a mother hen by tapping on the metal pin, dip their beaks a few times just like with a cup drinker and they will get it. You won't see a big drop of water when they do it themselves. The water tends to be scooped close to the pin. If you want really tame chicks....tap the pin to get more of a puddle in the red depression. Chicks love to "gulp" and will rush over to get the treat whenever you do this. If they are used to a conventional drinker it might take a day for them to learn. They will bond faster to this bottle if this is their only water source, otherwise they will get confused and bond to their old drinker. Once one chick understands how to nudge the pin and scoop the drops the others will copy and will get plenty of CLEAN water to drink. Place the bottle so the nipple is at eye level or a bit below for best results.

Adults - There is practically no learning curve for adult birds. Take their fount water out of their coop and install the QCU Poultry 1 Gallon Drinker. Prime the pin so there is a drop of water in the red indentation. In my experience, by the next day they have mastered this system and will never have to drink dirty water again. It's not uncommon for adult birds who have never seen a horizontal nipple drinker to take to it instantly.

How does it work? The metal pin at the center of the nipple will release a small amount of water when your bird pecks. The small indentation under the pin collects the drops and the bird easily drinks. It doesn't take long for them to figure it out since they are naturally attracted to the red plastic.

Please note: This is an indoor type drinker bottle designed to be installed in your coop or brooder. For outdoor applications where full sun exposure is going to be a factor, we recommend using a plastic bucket with the horizontal nipples. We also have available an outdoor bottle or we''d be happy to forward you to our recommended dealer for horizontal nipple buckets and freezing winter temperature water solutions.

I've had people ask if turkeys will use this drinker. YES!!! Here is a video of turkeys and their first day with this drinker. (they like the shiny plastic, too)

Will ducks use the horizontal nipples? The answer is YES! Waterfowl do need a water pan to bathe, but a horizontal nipple drinker system is an excellent backup drinker for them. If you'd like to order the nipples separately, we recommend the authorized US dealer for these located in Boise Idaho. (http://allboutchickens.com)
