How old do my 1 month old pullets have to be before I move them outside permanently or is there any specific temp they have to stay at outside?

I moved my almost three week old chicks out of the garage and into the coop annex, with a heat lamp, just today. They are doing fine, and have lots more space than the brroder provides. The cockrels are already acting 'boyish' so it was time. Mary

I have 1 month old chicks...hatched by broody. They still nest with mom @ night...otherwise they are out side during the day scratching & learning from mom. No mom.... if they have good bedding they'll
pig pile together and be fine.

at Kildare - you might try this, rig a 10 -12 inch wide board up to the same level as the highest roosts you have. What I have found, is that the urge to roost is a very strong one, and a lot of times the broody will let her chicks go to roost. However, when I put the board up, she will get those month old chicks up there. They can still snuggle in next and under mamma, she is with her flock mates and it works very well.

My broody hens stay much more interested in their chicks much longer than the 3-4 weeks when I started doing this. I would be interested if you tried it, if you got similar results.

Bantams usually need a bit more heat in the brooder than LF. I would think the usual "wait till fully feathered out," 6-8 weeks would be good. Are you having warm weather yet in your part of Wisconsin. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
