I have a 1 week old leghorn that is all of a sudden very lethargic. A week ago I got 12 chicks, freshly hatched that morning. They've been doing great but now one doesn't seem to be doing well at all. Eyes seem clear, no pasty butt, not sure what else to check. I did dip her beak in the water and she drank but no such luck on food. I have been thinking about offering some hard boiled egg as a treat to them but now I'm not sure if I should introduce something new when I am having a problem. These chicks are housed on aspen shavings in a dog crate/brooder in my basement, with a light-temp is still about 95. They are on chick starter, unmedicated and of course have water. Please help!

I found a post with a similar problem to mine and followed some of the advice in that thread. I got her eating from a syringe some wet crumbles, wet hard boiled egg and plain yogurt. Only a tiny bit of each over the last couple hours but she's acting a lot better and I watched her eat crumbles. Hopefully she'll be alright.

what post was it that you followed? I'm having the same problem with an EE chick. all the others seem fine, but this one is just so lethargic, I don't know what to do for it. I would hate to lose it, but I cant really put a full 24 hour shift in feeding it with a syringe...

hope all works out. mine seems to be drinking well, how about yours?

I'm sorry, I looked and wasn't able to find the post that I referred to.

As for my little chick, this afternoon her crop was giant so I got worried about an impacted crop. She's still not as active as the others but does seem somewhat better. Tonight, her crop was much improved (I had given her a little olive oil and massaged the crap some in the afternoon, as well as covering the woodchips up and taking away the food for a few hours). I hope she's going to be alright, if anyone has advice I'll be happy to hear it.
