Hi all
So I have been reading the board but am not sure if this is a slipped tendon. When I try to feel if the tendon has slipped I cannot feel anything that seems out of place. I also cannot push anything back in place. When I run my finger over the flat side of the joint, it feels like the tendon is in place. So maybe I don't know what I am feeling for? Or maybe this is not a slipped tendon? In either case, I don't want this little guy to be lame so any suggestions for treatment are appreciated.
Thanks in advance for any help.

1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.)
Normal sized when compared to hatchmates. Isabelle Orpington, 1 1/2 weeks old

2) What is the behavior, exactly.
Not putting weight on his right leg.

3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms?
This is the third day

4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms?
Nope

5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma.
No, the joint does look slightly swollen

6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation.
Nothing. We woke up two mornings ago and he was not walking well.

7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all.
Eating and drinking fine. He hops to get around. The first day I kept him in a separte brooder by my desk and watched him all day to be sure he was drinking and eating. He was fine and did not seem in distress or pain so I put him back in the main brooder. None of the other chicks are bothering him and he hops around to get food and water. We now call him Hopalong (lol)

8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc.
Nope, all good. Normal and firm.

9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far?
Isolation and I tried for one day to immobilize him. that seemed to help a bit and now he hops around on one leg.

10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet?
I will treat my self.

11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help.
Two videos posted below

12) Describe the housing/bedding in use
Main brooder is a large dog crate with wood shaving bedding over parchment paper. Small brooder is wood shaving over a kitchen towel. I wanted to be sure he would not slip so have tried to keep the bedding stable.

That indeed is a slipped tendon. They're hard to correct.

Some causes of this:

Vitamin Deficiency.

Poor Diet of the hen.

Genetics.

Thaks. I have her leg wrapped and she is in a sling. So we'll see. She is the only one from the hatch with this issue and none of my other hatches this year have had this so genetics is more likely than enviornment.
Make sure the hock, & tendon are straight, & aligned properly.

So day 2 report: He doe not seem any better. Joint is still swollen and he cannot put any weight on it. Most of the other chicks I have read with this issue were visibly better within a day and pretty much back to normal by two days. I wonder if it is because this happened to him when he was older? He is two weeks old today and this happened three days ago. Does anyone know if it is fixable with a chick this old? I don't see the point in strapping him a sling he truly hates if it is not going to help him.

I am now looking up how to make hock pads. LOL.

Sorry about your chick. Injuries can be common. Rest might help. Slipped tendon and other leg issues are common in newly hatched chicks. Incubation issues can be part of the cause. Many of these chicks end up being culled, unfortunately. They must learn to get around to eat and drink.

I would use a chick vitamin with B2 riboflavin or give a 1/4 tablet of human B complex crushed in a spoonful of water daily incase of a deficiency. Be careful if splinting to not splint too tight, and check for circulation. Here is a good thread (start with post 12 when they visit a vet) about a peachick with slipped tendon:
