1 week old chicks and mealworms

It would be unnecessary to cut the heads off meal worms. If you give your chicks anything other than chick crumbles you will need to provide grit. They sell grit that is sized specifically for chicks and I would scatter a small amount for your chicks to use to aid in digestion.

I gave my 2 week old mealworms. I bought them the mini sized ones and mad sure they had access to chick grit

My chicks are going to be on sand, so natural grit. I usually give the white mealies to the young ones. Those are the ones that have shed and will look white in the box.

Bumping this to say that I've been giving my weeklings mealworms after breaking them in half.
It should be fine as long as I supply them with sand, right?

They seem to really enjoy them - it's the only way I've gotten them to come up to my hand. A couple will even jump and flap to get at them. So far, they only get them from my or a family member's hand (so they come to associate us with all that is good and right with the world rather than with just the chick-trauma of having their vent holes checked).
They're hilarious- like having our own little goofy circus. This one in particular - the most laid back/least aggressive in the group who never gets a worm unless I throw it at her - doesn't even it once she gets a hold of one. She runs around the brooder, dried up worm in her beak, cheeping frantically until everyone starts to chase her.

I started feeding my chicks mealworms at 3 weeks old and now they eat garden worms off a silver spoon. They stare at me like I'm the "worm fairy" its so funny! I'm a grown woman digging in a garden with a spoon looking for worms-what is my ife coming too? LOL!
