1 week old chicks, happy to dead in hours

Very sorry for your losses. :hugs

Corid dose:
Treatment20% Powder9.6% Liquid
For 3-5 days1.5 teaspoons per gallon2 teaspoons per gallon
then for 7-14 days1/3 teaspoon per gallon1/2 teaspoon per gallon

When treating a bird for coccidiosis one can give an oral drench in addition to their medicated water. Here are the instructions:

Corid 9.6% liquid - Do not dilute
  • Give 0.1 ml per pound of body weight orally once or twice a day for 1-3 days.
or
  • 0.02 ml per 100 grams of body weight orally once or twice a day for 1-3 days.

Corid 20% powder - Mix 1/2 teaspoon powder with 2 teaspoons water.
  • Give 0.34 ml per pound of body weight orally once or twice a day for 1-3 days.
or
  • 0.07 ml per 100 grams of body weight orally once or twice a day for 1-3 days.

The directions above are the same when using any 9.6% liquid or 20% powder. Such products include Amprol, AmproMed, Amprolium 200, Amprid, CocciAid, etc.

If you don't have a scale I think you can assume that your week old chicks probably weigh about around 100 grams. If using the Corid liquid, give one drop undiluted orally.

Thank you all for the help and support! A week later and no more casualties! Someone still has runny brown poops, so they are still on Corid. When this pitcher is done I'll lower them to the 7-14 day dose described above. They are also now on medicated feed. No idea what medications are in it, but it is "medicated"!
As for pasty butt, a few did have it in the first several days we had them, but none since. My daughter cleaned them up daily, and they have been clean since before the first death.
I think we are in the clear, at least for now!
Thanks again for the help!

Chickens can die from corid overdose. There is always that one chick that drinks way more than it should. Never give it to ducks or geese as they rarely get anything. Not even wormer. Water hogs. I don’t ever give to babies. Im scared I will kill them.

So there are others out there that have and they are ok?

The amount being used here will not cause an overdose.

That has not been my experience.

Corid and wormers are perfectly safe for waterfowl.

Why are you so scared?
