1 week old peachick looks like a water balloon!

Now I have one.

So I just prick it with a pen or a hypodermic needle?

Here is the deal. Yesterday I sold some chicks from out of the youngest brooder. Today I found one of them looking like it was going to be spraddled legged. Upon inspection I found it blown up like a balloon.

I cleaned the area with alcohol.

And used a 20 ga syringe to puncture the skin.

The excess air came rushing out and the skin withdrew back to normal.

I will follow this procedure with an antibiotic.

How ironic brother, wow. Gerald Barker

I am having a Paul Harvey moment, here is the rest of the story.

So far I have had to prick the chick morning and night three times, twice this morning and twice this evening. It is so odd that as soon as I press the air out it reinflates. I am starting to think that I may just watch and see if it goes down on its own. I will decide in the morning I guess.

I found it helped to keep mine in a small brooder, 'cause like your guy, mine kept re-inflating.
