I have a 12x24foot coop, lots of birds that free range, and it's been since last spring that I cleaned the coop. Today was the day. It took 3 hours of shoveling, carrying shavings and poo out to the tractor bucket and to the 4wheeker cart to be hauled to the site of my future garden. The coop had developed an ammonia smell as the weather (finally) warmed that necessitated the clean up. I am not sure if I will clean it up this fall again or wait til spring. Only smell will tell, lol.
Now when I say once a year, I maintain, add chips, clean up any areas that get wet somehow, etc. as frequently as needed. The floor is plywood, and once cleaned up was dry as the day we installed it with no poo stuck to it.
Anyone else done the one time a year deal? I am tired, but happy not to do this several times a year.
