I recently acquired some new chicks. I'm not sure about the age, but from what I can tell they must be 1-2 weeks old.

One has a possible prolapsed vent. It's very swollen and was pasty until I cleaned it up. Until today, it has been very active: eating, drinking, interacting well with the other chicks, but lately it's been much less active, sitting with its vent pulsating and looking very unhappy. I tried honey and Prep H. They worked for a bit, but haven't really had any effect today. Is there anything else I can do to try and save it?

The other has moderate cross beak. I've read about filing it down, but I'm wondering if there's anything else I can do to fix it in the long term.

From what I can tell, these chicks were not under very good care before I received them, and I'm very concerned for their health. Any response would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I would put give some Poultry Nutri-Drench 1 ml to the chicks daily by mouth. It contains vitamins and trace minerals to hopefully prevent further beak deformity. The cross beak chick make get worse, and they can sometimes eat better by moistening the food into an oatmeal consistacy, and using a high sided bowl to eat from. Chicks with prolapsed vents do not usually fare well in the long run, but use some probiotics in the water, and lubricate the vent with a Q-Tip and some vegetable oil to help the pasty butt. Make sure tht the brooder temperature is not too hot, since dehydration and overheating can cause more constipation. Here is some info for you:
