10 Week Lavender Orpingtons

Tail feathers come in last as they only grow them once where the rest of the feathers are molted a few times as they grow. So what you are seeing is the tail feathers growing in at different rates on them. Also they may or may not be related.
True! Just interesting. First time chicken mom. The one we're questioning is also a lot quieter. We also have a 10 week old Blue Cochin and 9 week old Blue Australorp. None of them are loud by any means or overly chatty.

Being noisy or quiet is more of an individual personality trait. Like people some chickens are loud and boisterous, and some quiet and shy. Sex of the bird doesn't seem to affect that, just their position in the hierarchy.

Bold birds are often on top of the pecking order. Hens have their pecking order, and roosters have theirs, and almost always mature roosters are dominant over the mature hens.

So your louder pullet may be more dominant.

Acquired these two about 6 weeks ago and they were supposed to be about 3 months old then. Gandalf (bigger one) was supposed to be a roo and Arwen was a hen. Now not sure either way. No crowing or other Roo signs from either of them. Thoughts?

Better pictures might help. You also may get more replies if you start your own thread. From what I can see they might be both pullets, but need to see them more clearly, faces and side. At 4 months cockerel are generally crowing and have bigger redder combs.

Both are cockerels. Think you've got a Gandalf and Radagast now.
Radaghast - I'd like to see them try.gif
