These are the first turkeys my hubby and I have gotten. The white one, who I just call my buddy, is 6 weeks old. She is SO sweet. I had no idea turkeys were so precious! She is starting to be a little protective of me though when I take her out in the yard for 'walks'. Will she become very territorial of me as 'mommy'? I've loved on her and given her 'yummies' since 1 week old!

This little guy is our 1 and a 1/2 week old. No name since he'll be on the menu for Thanksgiving. =(

Are you sure the 6 week old is a she? I'm under the impression that its the toms who strut.

Honestly, we aren't sure. It was in a straight run batch. My father in law got it and tried to sneak it into my chicken coop with my Cornish X Rocks to see how long it would take me to notice since we are new at this. I noticed within a few hours! He had a turkey a long time ago and seems to think it's a she so that's what I call it :p

I have seen that females can strut if they are the only one to show dominance. She (he) is the biggest one in the coop right now and was the only turkey until we put the new baby out.
But it is certainly possible it is a Tom!

Update on this...
Turkey is being very aggressive towards the new babies and has been 'strutting' a lot more! It also gobbled for the first time and tends to try to puff out at anyone who comes near the pen when I'm in there.
Acting more like a Tom since you mentioned it!
I'll try to get an updated picture soon!

Please so keep me posted... With pics

Do you know what breed you have?

The white one we just purchased as 'white' so not sure of a certain breed.
And the little one was sold to us as a broad breasted bronze. =)

ps- Will update with pics ;)

Today. Almost 7 weeks. It has the 'warts' on it's neck, but none on the head. It has almost like a stripe of two of feathers going up the back of the neck.

.

It's a boy!

He struts all the time now and has just to begin to gobble.
He is always around me and does not like if I show the chickens attention and not him!
He also changes his neck between red and flesh colored a lot.

Love him!
