We have a ten week old cream legbar we purchased from Meyer Hatchery. She was always lazy when we took her outside before they permanently moved outside. The last week or two I have grown more and more concerned about her laziness and realized she was very wobbly when she walks. She is able to run when we free range them but mostly finds a spot and lays down while everyone else explores. She eats and drinks and enjoys treats. She has always loved to be held, I’m wondering if she has always been this way, and I didn’t realize it as a first time chicken mom. My three boys love her and she gets held a lot! Today I noticed she had a lump on her neck. Hard to tell if it’s a lump or misshapen neck. The other birds thankfully don’t pick on her so far. She can jump up on the roost but just always appears off balance. She waddles around and then plops. I read that maybe it’s a vitamin deficiency and started using rooster booster vitamins and electrolytes. Today we also started giving her some poly vi sol drops and moved her inside so we can monitor her more closely. Not sure if I am doing the right thing for her or not. Any help is appreciated. I will post pics of her neck and her poop. Here is a video: Wobbly walking Thank you!

How long have they been outside? I know that Mareks actually takes a pretty long time to show up. Is the lump hard or squishy? I wonder if it’s just a sort of chicken birth defect. Is she fatter than the others at all, or is it hot? Sometimes the chicken just feels a little hungrier and then a little more tired. I think as long as she doesn’t display any other symptoms it should be ok. I’d keep her separated for another 24-48 or so hours to make sure but if the others don’t start showing symptoms in that time it should be ok. These are just the steps I would take but I am nOt at all educated in this field lol. When one of my chicks threw up I added garlic to the waters and oregano and basil to the food to boost the other immune systems.

They have been outside for about a month now. Before that, we did take them out into the yard for short periods of time. The lump just feels like her head, I wonder if it is the start of wry neck. We have a mixed flock, She is average sized. She really seems to eat ok and drink. She is just really wobbly on her feet and her toes lift up and down to keep her balance. She would be happy to just be held al day. When she free ranges she will run if they all do, but mostly she just sits and watches everyone else have fun. I guess I will continue the vitamins and hope for the best! Thank you for your response!

No problem! I hope she gets better soon. Sometimes it doesn't matter as long as the chicken is happy.
