10 weeks and thinking two of my three are roos :(

Just a heads up, sometimes the Alpha hen will decide to crow. Our Rhode Island Red Scarlett does and has forever. Lays lovely brown eggs, too!

As for the ducks, the two smaller ones on the near and far side look like females. The one in the middle, if the same age, is likely a drake. Keep an eye out for the curled tail feather, how old are they?

I just posted a pic of my BR's and they are also 10 weeks, mine in question looks just like Mocho!! I really didn't want a roo, but if he behaves I guess it'll be ok. I have 6 year old hens that are red sex link. They all lay great. I started to think this chicken's comb was way bigger, then looked up the feathering factor....uggh. If they are SOOO easy to sex, why are so many from the feed stores wrong? I guess they just get mixed up in the stores if they have 6 different bins....I hope yours all get along....Good Luck!

Thanks new2chooks

I just posted pics of the EE and ducks to show off... pretty sure they are all girls, our big one, Katie, her head is dark but has remained the same, but we'll see, the ducks are only slightly older then the chicks, about 12 weeks

TrystInn... I'd love it if Mocho was a girl, but you think it could still be a possiblity with such a huge comb at 10 weeks?

I agree with everyone else:

Barred rock- cockerel

Rhode Island Red- cockerel

Easter Egger- pullet

My cockerels are nearly 8 weeks old and they have big old combs. One has a very red comb and the others has pink combs and big wattles. One of them is crowing already and I think a second one has started. My oldest chicks I bought from a local breeder when they were week old chicks. The breeder doesn't sex their chicks until they are at least 4 weeks old. I have 6 New Hampshire cockerels and 6 pullets. I didn't do so great picking them out (I was trying to get all pullets).

My cockerels have great temperments. They went thru a little spell where they wanted to peck me but they don't do it anymore. The older they are getting, the more friendlier mine are getting

I used to have ducks and my chickens and ducks got along pretty good.

My friend has lots of RIR roosters and I can walk amongst them. My friends RIR roosters is friendly. She got hers from McMurray hatchery.

I have heard that Barred Rock roosters are a bit on the mean side. I never had a barred rock rooster.

LOL I have heard the exact opposite in regards to RIR and BR roos personalities! it's so funny... but we're first timers, so I gues we'll see... so far so good, no pecking, and the three chickens come up to the side of the fence you are one when you just walk out there, and they all cuddle together, so heres to hoping!

just a thought about keeping both roos...i bought some chicks from tsc & ended up with all roos except 1 ... i had 2 oegb roos that were kept together for the whole 1 1/2 yrs i had them & they never fought ??? so it may be possible to keep them in a diff pen with out any girls ...like with the ducks ??

From my limited experience with my calls I am going to guess that the mallard in the middle is a drake. I was sure I had 2 girls because of the coloring but one has a raspy voice and is slowly changing color. What started as a thin black line around the bill is slowly spreading.

Andrea, my ducks and chickens are all together... I'm thinking that if I'm to have ANY shot at this, I'll have to get atleat one more hen....

Justme: how old are your ducks? Mine are about 12 weeks, and Katie (the big middle one) hasn't changed in looks in weeks, other then getting bigger.... "She" was the smallest duckling and my Rudie was the biggest and now they totally switched places! But I have read they do look similar to females in the summer, and I have noticed this week that I'm not sure I've her "her" quack... so I guess I better start paying attention! I don't think we'll be able to keep a drake and TWO roosters together for sure! We may just need to build a new coop anyways!

I recently got a roo who was living in a little guinea pig cage with another roo, and they were perfectly friendly to each other. I've since been told roos that are hatch-mates are more likely to get along, so maybe yours will.

We have 4 chicks right now, and are told they are girls, but can't be 100% sure. If one turns out to be a roo, we're considering neutering him before he's mature- not positive, but I think that a capon and roo would be unlikely to fight then?
