107° today and I'm sure glad I have a swamp cooler for the coop. It's 92° inside the coop, I don't like to make it colder than that.

It is like a air conditioner but uses water that runs through it with air to create a cool feeling,it is a moist cool not a dry cool I live in Arizona and have one it is awesome untill the monsoons come and it rains every day then the moister on moisture does not work at all,it is cheaper than an air conditioner though.... I freeze gallons of water and put them in my run and the chickens LOVE to lay around them :)

Actually, a swamp cooler lowers the temperature not just 'feels' cooler, I find it works best with outside humidity in the teens. I've gotten 30+° drop at the supply port, IE; 100 outside port, 70 inside port. Pretty serious cooling considering only using water and air. My house swamp cooler unit costs me under $2 a day, my central A/C costs that an hour.

Chickens don't have sweat glands like humans (our cooling system), so fans do nothing for chickens. To make them comfortable and keep them alive, one needs to actually lower the temperature, like the popular ice method. But a swamp cooler is more convenient, turn on and forget it.

Totally on target for swamp (aka evaporative) cooler working--but it does have to be a low humidity situation. So folks in steamy states don't get that lucky break alas.

I think that fans must help a little to cool chickens even if it just blows the hot air away from them to allow a tad bit cooler air to move in. The factory farms for chickens have giant fans all over the place.
