11 day old chicks- eating anything and everything

That's far too shallow for a dust bath so they're acting more like it's a feeder. Instead of the lid, use the tupperware tub, something deep enough that they can wear a rut into it. No need for the lavender and don't need to grind it down, just give them the dirt as is.

With grit, my approach is to add a pinch on their food once every few days. Prevents them from gorging on it.
Ohhhh!!!! Great advice!

When my chicks are about three days old I give them chick grit, and if they gorge on it I don't worry about it, it doesn't seem to hurt them. Then about three days later I start introducing dried meal worms, which always seems to terrify them at first. I use the mealworms to teach them my voice and hands. By the time they are three weeks old, which is when I move them to an outdoor brooder, they usually come running to my voice.

That's great! I only have 2 of the 7 that come running to me, they are my cuddle bugs. I'll have to try the mealworm treats! We always have live for our reptiles, can the chicks have live?
