I think I have a male and female. After reading the posts on here, i'm almost sure I have a male and female. Anyway, my questions were:
1.) Does anyone know what kind of bronze turkeys Atwoods carries? Are they BB bronze? I guess I should call them. I know I read on here that they don't make good pets but my goodness, i'm addicted to these little creatures. I love them, so I hope they live a little longer that what i've read. (if they are BB).

2.) Are all Toms kind of lazy? They one that I think is a tom is awfully lazy. I catch him laying down alot. He seems fine, his poops are fine, but my goodness, I see him laying in and next to their food eating out of it. He will get up and chase follow me around if i'm out in the pen with them but for the most part I've noticed he acts lazy.

3.) I've noticed when I go out there and start talking to them, their heads turn red. Both of them. I read an article and it said their necks and head will turn red if they are upset. Does that mean they are mad at me or are they just excited because "mom" is out there talking to them? I know they like me because, he will come sit with me, but the the female wants to sit on me...lol, she had gotten on my head and sat down, gotten on my shoulders and sat down. I finally just have to sit down and let her sit on my lap.

4.) I've fed them chick starter and egg yolks because I couldn't find game bird medicated starter, and I read on here a couple of folks did okay feeding their birds chick starter. I do have some game bird starter that I also feed them, do you think that maybe the tom has not gotten enough protein, and thats why he seems lazy? I'm actually going to take him to the vet Friday. He told me to bring him by. The 2 new younger vets doesn't know a whole lot about birds but the older vet does, and he told me bring timmy by and they check him out. I just hope I'm doing everthing right. They have really, reallly grown on me. I'm gonna hate it, if they dont live that long. If that happens, I will go by me some that will make good pets. Gosh, I love those silly little birds!

My guess is your turkeys are BB. Most of the major hatcheries have not been hatching heritage turkeys for 11 weeks, but they hatch BB nearly year around. The other clue can be the price. BB turkeys run about 5-6 dollars. Heritage turkeys are in the 9-10 dollar range. I would be feeding the highest protein that you can buy. I feed non medicated 28% protein turkey/game bird starter. Your boy might be getting sore in his legs. That makes them not want to walk around much. Egg yolk is only 20% protein. Chick starter is lacking calcium that they need for good legs. Turkey starter has 4 times the amount of calcium that chick starter has.

I'll feed the turkey starter. Hey you don't think its too late do you. He acts fine just lays alot, and he's just started this yesterday. So if I start continue nothing but turkey starter hopefully he will bounce back?

Oh, and thank you for your reply.

Definitely don't worry about the medicated part. The high protein is much more important. I know some out there will disagree, but I think medicated feeds are not necessary. We never use medicated feeds for our chicks or our poults, and our mortality rates are very low if we start with quality stock.

At 11 weeks on a BBB, I am not sure we need to worry about the high protein anymore. That window is long gone. I think you need turkey grow now.

If you think your turkey is a heritage turkey then go to the Turkey starter.

I have never used medicated turkey starter either.
