I use shade cloth the 80* uv blocker, along with misters and wet the ground in the morning for the dirt to be cool in a corner of the run (they have dug a hole I fill) . I too leave them alone during the heat of the day unless I give them some ice cold watermelon slices they seem to stay quieter through the heat of the day if I don't bother them.

I am in Ohio now but lived in Cave Creek for 11 years with chickens. Main thing is shade, airflow, clean cool fresh water and if you can a mist system works great. You can also use frozen pop bottles to help cool things down but in general they really do just fine! Good Luck!
