11th Annual Easter Hatch a Long 2020

I checked my duck egg that has no air cell and so far it is still living. I checked all over the egg for an air cell and there is not one at all. I don't know what is going on

All my other eggs are doing great, maybe I'll candle the weird duck eggs tonight and post pics.

Sooo weird. I wonder if it's still losing weight. Such an unusual egg.

I tossed at least 12 eggs. Mainly from the White Cornish. Roosters are too big and I’m not doing AI
There’s a reason rare breeds are rare sometimes.

Not sure if this has been brought up yet or not. Seems there’s a chick shortage now. I asked at the feed store today and she said that they sold out their weeks supply in an hour and a half.

No idea I haven't weighed it. I don't do much besides candling I'm afraid to screw it up more than it already is

So many people are buying chicks right now. I work part time in a feed store, and I cannot tell you how many parents have come in to buy chicks to have 'something for their kids to do' while they're out of school. I just hope they realize what a commitment they're making. I do always make sure they buy all the stuff they need to take proper care of them, at least.

Then we're also getting people buying them who might have decided to get them because of all the corona stuff, I think. I guess they don't realize it'll be six months before they get eggs.

Some people might genuinely have decided to buy because they realize they want to be more self-sufficient after all the panic-buying left grocery stores bare. Those people I trust did their research and actually know what they're getting into.

Even if you were weighing it, I'm sure it would only raise more questions, lol. All we can do is wait and hope that a little air cell magically appears!

Precisely what I was thinking. It’s similar to the garden idea. Whole lot of work for maybe a chance for a tomato or two. And water isn’t cheap. Very thankful for our farmers.

My eggs were too early to be counted in this year's HAL, but I'd like to share my newest additions to help all those in need of a quick chick fix before your own eggs hatch.

So far I only have 2 out. Both are lav orps.

One of my Ameraucana pullets decided to participate in the Easter hatch! I found her today outside of the chicken yard sitting in an old nest box on top of 19 eggs!

I used to have two cabinet incubators!

Wow, I only have a incubator that fits 41 eggs but I dont want a huge flock so its a pretty good size for me.
