12+ Blue Laced Red Brahma Project Hatching Eggs

Folks, can we just get back to bidding on this person's auction? The increments are under review and may change in the future, but for now, this is the way it is. If you receive eggs from this seller, you may leave feedback by which future buyers may make their decisions to buy or not to buy from this seller.

For discussion of this system, please continue here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=251304

Somebody told me I needed to promote these birds more, I was thinking more on the lines of P.T. Barnum, but apparently my natural talents runs closer to pro wrestling promoter Vince McMahon. I don't think he could work a crowd into a lather any better than I have managed here. In the red corner, from the wilds of western Ohio, we have that no account ingrate big medicine, and in the blue corner we have....... Surely did not intend to poke a hornets nest here.

Just noticed it says reserve not met, in fact the reserve is $50, so the first bid clears that.

I have been away at a show and missed ALL this until just now, but I feel compelled to put in my 2 cents here. I know Gary well as he has been a real life saver for me and my chickens. I am a relative newbie and as with all newbies, their chickens suffer for it. He has ALWAYS answered the phone when I call him (I figure eventually folks will get sick of answering stupid chicken questions), he has ALWAYS bent over backwards to help me in every way that he could, shared information, breeding knowledge, everything he knows that I have asked about, he shared openly and freely. He is funny, (dry sense of humor, which sometimes doesn't work on line) warm, generous, and ethical person, who would never do anything underhanded or dishonest. I have seen both his Silver Laced Brahmas and the Blue Laced Red Brahmas and they are magnificent. He doesn't just work on color, they have type that is stunning. He says the BLR's are a work in progress, but they are my favorite. I just LOVE BLR. There is no such thing as this color in Brahmas anywhere else in the world. This is Gary's project that he has developed and they are his exclusively. He hasn't just worked several years, he has worked 20 on these birds. Just the other day he told me that he was going through 50 lbs of feed a day. I've stood next to these birds and they are massive, they eat a lot. Can you imagine how much that cost him over the years by the time he raised all those generations to an age where he could tell what he had so he can pick his next breeders. To have folks on here wanting to "play bidding games" with pennies IS an insult. If you want to play bidding games there are plenty of APA recognized lovely birds that you can have your "status wars" with. I think I can understand the rationale in what you are doing and the fun in it, but it has no place with these birds. You should show respect where respect is due. When you put that many years into something, then maybe you'll understand why he would be hurt/offended/insulted by pennies, and $50 for these eggs is NOT a fair price, let alone $50.01. There were a lot of people who never flinched at the thought of paying $700 a doz for Coronation Sussex eggs and I can't imagine for one second that anyone would have the nerve to bid in penny increments for them.
Kristen - LovinMyPeeps - It's unfortunate that you can't find it in your heart to move past your earlier feelings of betrayal, Gary is a GREAT guy and you are cutting yourself off from a very valuable resource. I hate to see you do that, it is your loss.
Gary my friend, I wish I had LOTS of money. I'd put an end to this auction right now!
OH by the way folks. He will be selling Silver Laced again - eventually - be patient.

Okay guys. I'm sure Gary is a great guy. This is not in question, IMO. Gary, I'm sorry this has gotten everybody kind of excited. We are all quite sure you are no less than wonderful.

His birds are worth major bucks, we all agree. They are incredible birds, truly lovely. That is not in question.

No reflection on the breeder is meant when we bid, guys. We are not being disrespectful - at least we don't mean to be. That is a fact. We are having harmless fun and some socializing. The auctions we do have a lot of banter on tend to attract a lot of attention and actually tend to crawl up higher than they otherwise would, I believe. Ya'll should go back and look at some.

We were totally unaware that sellers were taking offense. This is certainly the first I have heard of it. Bidding is bidding, and I'm sure everybody has heard of esnipe for ebay and proxy bidding.

This is all getting out of hand. BYC is for people to have fun and socialize and we felt that is what we were doing. There was no intention of OUR hurting anybody just as I am sure there was no intention of GARY hurting anybody. So let's just cool out jets and get our panties straightened out.

I don't think any more personal attacks are necessary or appropriate on this auction. We don't want the auction locked or anything. That would be a poor reflection on everybody here.

There, that is my 1cent. sorry sorry i just couldn't help it. i'm putting on my big girl knickers on right now.

last edited for some amazingly poor speling

this thread has morphed into a discussion about auction protocol. Bidding in one cent increments is a disrespect to the auction process and intent. I saw one Mod indicate they intend to change the it. The sooner the better.
Good luck to OP on his/her auction.

Yes, well, we are truly sorry you see it that way and I think all meaningful points have been made. There was and never has been intent to harm or be disrespectful of any seller. If BYC changes the bidding rules then fine. I also wish the OP good luck on this and future auctions. He has developed some truly fine birds.

OK - I'm not afraid to bid on these beautiful birds. I'm sure I will get fresh and well packaged eggs.

I saw someone paid $4501 for a pair of Coronation Sussex chicks on egg bid and they were first generation out of a pair of imports, not years of work trying to get something new. if you want them bid.

WOW. I am with Big Medicine on this one. If everyone keeps riding his case he will probably stop selling eggs or anything of the like. Its things like these that make breeders disheartened with dealing with the public.
I am sure he has put untold years and untold THOUSANDS of dollars into his breeding programs and they are his birds, I say he can say or joke about whatever he wants. He has earned that respect I would think.
The rest of you that seemed to be so "offended", geez let it go please. I would think the penny bids should be done away with myself.
Ok, now people can rail on me instead of big medicine haha...
