12+ Blue Laced Red Brahma Project Hatching Eggs

Sheesh, I've been following this thread and I'm sorry I think he's right, a penny bid is a bit on the cheap side, especially when you've worked hard on something as breeding and he's breeding something relatively new! I'm not a breeder at all and I can understand the work he has put into it, whether you enjoy it or not, it's still work! Let's respect that and if you had a problem with what he said, why not just PM him and let him know that his ad struck you as wrong or odd? This way here he could have had some feedback without being publicly ridiculed and hung without a trial. Had the first complainant done that, he might have realized he could have worded his ad differently and this whole hoopla could have been avoided. I have to admit, though you all did create wonderful or not so wonderful as the case may be, publicity for him and all for free!! LOL

He's definitely a new BYC celebrity!

Please take this post with a bit of humor on the side!

I'm also glad his BYC friends on here are sticking up for him. I think he has explained his rationale clearly and some people just need to move on past it!

Big Medicine- your birds are gorgeous, in fact the reason I looked at the ad in the first place was Blue Laced......I have a thing for looking at Blue Laced anything!! That coloring is stunning!

I agree that the penny bid increment should be removed. I also think that Big Medicine was trying to ask that people not bid a penny with humor, which I appreciate. I myself love a good, dry sense of humor and would much prefer somebody ask with humor. Maybe next time he should just put "no penny bids please." Maybe that way he would not be so misunderstood and he wouldn't be tarred and feathered in the public square.

You're sure right about the free publicity. I looked at this thread because of all the posts...wanted to see what all the interest was. I'm glad that I did.

Big Medicine...your birds are gorgeous !! Congratulations on your success. I am glad to see that all your years of dedication and hard work has culminated into such beautiful creatures. Again, congratulations. You should be very, very proud !!!

Heck Yeah, I would too Patty if I had that kind of money at the time, I really want some of those SL Brahmas.

The Penny Bid. This is not a negative thing. If a seller has an asking price, the penny bid assures the seller that he IS getting his asking price, and has actually "sold" his eggs. Meaning someone wants them and is willing to pay his asking price. Where is the disrespect in that?

That penny bid is not a cheap bid, but a call to a challenge for interested parties to join a bidding war. If I were selling eggs, I would want a bidding war.

We "sharks" are a group of friends who actually started calling ourselves sharks. We are all friends and have a healthy competition over some eggs. We were not labeled sharks by someone else in a negative way. What can be negative about a group of friendly people that actually spend big bucks on less than a dozen eggs ?

And it all started with penny bids among friends actually meaning "I dare you to cross that line"

"ADJUSTED SHARK WARNING: If the winning bid is less than one U.S. dollar higher than the previous bid, the + of 12+ may reflect the bid.
Have Paypal account. Mail leaves my post office at 4PM daily."

Let me just address this really quick. First of all, not only the "sharks" as we jokingly refer to ourselves as make lower than 1 dollar increment bids. So by continuing to put "shark warning" I guess those of us that do tend to pal around together feel like we're being insulted. We are not denying the absolute inherent beauty of your birds. They are infact stunning. Perhaps it would have been nicer to just put "please dont bid in less than 1 dollar increments"? I know personally at the end of auctions I've jumped bids by 10 dollars or more. The 1 cent bidding is just us having some fun to show each other "I'm still lurking, I want these eggs". To continue to stress the + will be altered based on the bids and state "shark warning" calls us out, as though you think we're not worthy bidders? I know I personally have spent upwards of $300 on hatching eggs this season, I have stressed every hatch, the health of every bird, and yet you make it seem like we're not worthy of good quality stock. Ok they're not older eggs, but it's still a threat. Why is that necessary? I'm sure you're a decent guy and your birds are the result of decades of hard work, but you don't need to be threatening. I guess maybe I don't get your sense of humor. I am currently looking into buying land to properly expand my operations with very nice housing for my flocks. I like to think of myself as a responsible chicken owner. I need to trust a seller/breeder before I invest that kind of money. Unfortunately you have broken my trust

It's a shame, because I would be proud to own/show birds of that quality.

Cliques are groups of friends... I've not heard of cliques consisting of groups of people that can't stand each other. *sigh*

Look, I'm not a friend or enemy of this fellow. Like it or not, I said my peace and stick to it. I'm not saying any of the sharks are bad people,... as with what he said people often don't realize how they come across in online posts until it's already upset someone else.

For those just checking in,.. if you think THESE are nice,... look up his other posts to see pictures of his silver laced brahmas to see what a finished project of his looks like.

I have taken part in some of those bidding wars, but just had to stop. It makes it fun, and I do think creates interest because people are bidding, then writing a response, which causes the auction to pop up on "recent posts", which allows more people to see that particular auction... Just look at Gretchens tolbunt polish eggs - EXCELLENT example of what penny bids can get you

And yes, I have put in penny bids, but in the end I always put in my best offer. If someone offers more, then so be it. I don't think the auction format on here is a bad thing, and I would never take offense to anybody offering 50.01 on my eggs. Lets face it, that's a lot of money! Plus, there is a reserve on this auction. I'm pretty sure if I went and put in 50.01, I would not meet the reserve price. If he wants to set the bid increment, take the auction to eggbid! Oh, wait, then he would have to pay selling fees... I say count your blessings there is somewhere to post FREE B/S/T ads.

I totally understood what the seller was saying, it just wasn't done properly. It puts doubt in peoples minds no matter what others say about the seller. That's just my opinion

I'm sure he didn't mean any disrespect to the self proclaimed 'sharks'.

From a bidders standpoint, I also get frustrated with the 1 cent increments. Being beat by 1 cent in the last few seconds of an auction is just not fair and who wouldn't bid one or two more pennies to get what they wanted. If people are allowed to bid 1 cent then it ought to not be allowed in the last few seconds. Another site I buy and sell on handles this 'sniping' a little differently... any bids entered in the last minute of an auction automatically trigger the auction to extend another 5 minutes so that the really serious bidders have a chance to bid higher. Sometimes it extends the auctions an hour but it absoultely prevents getting sniped. Perhaps BYC could look into doing something like this.
