Edited with an update!
Thanks for the eggs they arrived in one piece, box did not even look like it had left your house(very well packaged with lots of notes as to fragile and don't shake, x-ray etc! GOOD JOB!). We will see what the FFA kids can do with these. I would say, they (the FFA kids) will be in the market for some more eggs some time around March. I think they want a good variety of eggs so we can see how each type of animal hatches differently (#days, humidity requirements, etc) and what we end up with at hatching time. They would like some ducks, turkeys, and chickens and anything else different we can stir up. I will defininately get some silkies and frizzles from you. What else did you say you had available so they can plan hatch #2!

Thanks a ton and I will keep you updated and throw pictures up here when hatching occurs!

Lisa just an update on the FFA eggs!
Eggs are on day 11. Incubator temp hangs out at 101.4 most of the time in the brooder and 48% humidity. Guess what we actually stalled out on candling till today! (arent you all proud of our resistance to open the incubator! I just want them all to hatch out fine!)
Anyhoo, when we did candle today....of the 30 wonderful eggs you sent me...................drumroll please............
We have:
15 frizzles with movement
10 silkies with movement
1 green whatever it could be with movement
Of course, we don't know if any of the naked necks frizzles or silkies are any of the successful ones but I will let ya know when they hatch. October 30th is tentative hatch day. Everyone keep the hatch dances and karma going!

For traveling as far as they did from South Carolina to Missouri, I think only culling 4 eggs is not bad! Guys and gals, I am telling you Dipsy Doodle Doo packs these eggs like the finest china! We lost one of the greens and 3 others, I did not make note of the other ones, but oh well! They all had tried to make (were fertile) but for some reason or another had a blood ring and had dead embryos.

Again thanks for helping us out with the FFA project, and getting the eggs out so fast. I am sure we will do this again in Feb/March so keep us some oddball ones available and let me know if you have a surplus of eggs and we can always do the next project then!!!! I will update later on. Thanks Again!

Hi Jenn! Thanks for the update! You are soooo welcome!
You are quite virtuous to be able to wait til Day 11 to candle --- I get antsy and have to check at Day 6.
Great job incubating so far!
I should have duck eggs (Pekins for sure, maybe Swedish and Magpies) in spring.
If all goes as planned, there will be Barred Rocks, Ameraucana, silver Campines, Jersey Giants and a bunch of 'odd birds' (blue cuckoo green-eggers, blue / splash frizzled naked neck green-eggers, Giant Naked Necks, lol).

Well, keeping busy getting ready for National convention has helped me have the willpower to wait. LOL Nothing like being busy! I am just amazed that so many are doing ok after the long travels. I guess we can say these chickies will be well traveled!

I will try to hold out till at least Monday the 27th to candle again. I want to leave them alone as much as possible so they can successfully hatch. It is nice to have some that did not make it so we can show the kids what they look like when they start and cannot finish. Also some of MY silkie eggs were not fertile so they were clear another good example. Hatching will be fun, they will be in school that day to see.

Her eggs are AWSOME! Out of 14 frizzled eggs shipped to Iowa - 12 are definately growing and one is a maybe. I say maybe because it has a little bit darker shell and it is only like day 5. The one I culled was obviously not going nowhere. Can't wait to see what color roosters pop up this time!

(Just messing with ya Lisa!)

BTW - did you get those pictures I e-mailed you? Wasn't sure if the links would work through e-mail. I would like your opinion on the sex of Sylver.

Eggs come off the turner tonight and into the waiting incubator for hatching on the 30th, Cannot wait to see what is cooking.....speaking of cooking, I really got freaked out, the incubator raced up to 103.4 on Saturday and I about flipped out. I opened up the bator and fanned it real quick to take that temp down. Don't know how long it was up there but GRRRRR....I was aggravated. Got it back to normal 100.9 - 101.3 I can live with that temp. I candled a few and they were all still wiggling so I guess it did not harm them too much.

I will keep you posted!
