I just did! I used a pencil, though.
I use sharpie on broody eggs because I've had the pencil wear off over time. I need to be able to quickly distinguish her clutch of eggs from the new additions.

Here are my fertile eggs. For the eggs coated with dried egg -those get trashed, right? I’m scared to put dirty eggs in the incubator.View attachment 2568117
If I have too many eggs, I pick the cleaner ones for incubation. If there's a dirty egg from a particular hen that I want to incubate, I rinse it under warm water and blot dry with paper towel. My DD did an experiment and the washed eggs did about the same as the unwashed.

Unless it's cracked, you can clean and refrigerate for eating.
