Sorry, I should have been a bit more specific about that...yes, first eliminate feed being an issue and if it continues happening then culling the culprit is best option.
I had two doing this. One of them, Amber, is nearly blind, so I removed all egg pieces and replaced it with a golf ball. She pecked it on it for days and finally decided eggs were no longer breakable. 🤣

Another I had do this later on, I put a fake egg in the nest (wasn't sure who was doing it, all I know is this one wasn't blind so I doubted the golf ball would work) and let her try to break that. Whoever it was, she actually knocked the egg out of the house entirely and worked on breaking it in the yard too. Ended up breaking her of the habit. 😄 Worth a try before culling!

:th
@Cynthia12...I have one too. This one's still alive and bouncing around by where the air cell should be:

I placed it back into the incubator for now and made sure to put it in more of an upright position then it was in before. I'm hoping it still has a chance to correct itself but guess I'll just have to wait and see.
Yes, we never know. I've actually got a few that have bad air cells. I'm not going to be surprised if they don't make it to lockdown. If they do, I'll be candling on the day others start hatching, just to see if they're still alive. If so, I may assist. I really don't want to miss out on any of these that could make it. My Nn's!

Just thought you fellow chicken folks would enjoy this. A friend with chickens texted it to me just now.😊

I love it. 🤣 If my cracked egg lives (just put it in a few days ago, one of my hens started laying again after a 2 month break), I guess the name would be... base coat / top coat. 😆 🤷‍♀️ Gunmetal Glitter definitely has more of a ring to it. 😅 Curious, what other names have you used?

Megalast, Stormy, and Pretty Duckling (yes that was actually the name of my gold glitter nail polish, lol! We called her Ducky).

Stoic update.....
I was outta town from Monday till Wednesday night. 23 y/o was "tending to the fur kids and the flock.... when i got home was not pleased and exhausted.

got home today from work and discovered that Broody silkie Momma had #5 egg hatch over the last 24 hours. I immediately looked at the 23 y/o son and said this isn't good.... we need to move here and them to the crate NOW. You go clean these water containers and bring them back quick and then bring the food (crumbles) in a small bowl as well .... I'll stay here and prep the crate.

Got here moved. Recandled the other 4 eggs.
#1 looks still possible and slowly developing...maybe
#2 had several micro fractures and had leaked along a ~3/4" crack as well as appeared to stop growing
# 3 & 4 appear to still be growing and much darker then #1 but, don't see an air pocket ....
