Hi! We started with 18. Out of the 11 eggs that went into lockdown, we got 10! So 10 total eggs hatched and are doing well. I'll get better pics when they are all fluffed up! The last 2 hatched after I went to bed last night. This has been such a fun thing to participate in, and follow along with!

It was my 2nd time incubating, and the first time with this incubator. I usually use a broody silkie to hatch, but we wanted to see it up close this time. So fun!!

We're on day 20 with 3 out of eight eggs without blood rings. Hoping for one more and checking every ten minutes!

I'm glad. My hatch rate last year was pretty good. Of 15 eggs with life, 13 hatched, and I blame the two dead on a power outage. But I don't know what my hatch rate would have been if I hadn't caught the fluctuating temperatures with the thermometer inside. You've never had this trouble? I wonder if mine is defective or something...

I may have to adjust my thermostat once a week just slightly but I keep my incubator in a temperature steady room and that makes a huge difference.

I also have four to six thermometers in my incubator at all times... So I know the temperature multiple areas at one glance.

She's still making those nibbling motions now. I wonder how long it will take to finish that up, all her sisters (and brothers I'm sure ) went from pip to out in under 24 hours. She isn't chirping anymore, but I see rapid breathing and nibbling motions. I thought she was weakening because no chirping, which is why I was getting a little panicked. But this is normal?

Thanks, I hope so too. I haven't slept all night, I don't want to wake up to a shrink wrapped chick! The fact that I can't check humidity is killing me. I opened the incubator three times after this one pipped (twice to make sure it was alive, that's why the last time I opened the shell / membrane a little so I could see the beak through the window of the incubator. Two more eggs pipped and I don't want to jeopardize them). I have a wet sponge in there to increase humidity, and I added more water to the channels while I had it open because it had dried out.

Sometimes for whatever reason they just don't make it but it sounds like you are doing everything you can to give her the best chance possible. If she happened to pass at this point before even absorbing the blood vessels it wouldn't be because you didn't help in time.

Is there still plenty of ventilation? Higher humidity might cause more issues getting enough oxygen if there isn't good ventilation.

I can relate to staying up all night worrying about chicks, hopefully she'll have made you worry for nothing!

10 chicks will be hatching between the tow batches. I candled and kept the viable ones with chicks in them.

I'm not sure if it is normal or not but my little guys don't often chirp much before they are ready to hatch so hopefully she is fine!

My Polish always chirp. You can hear them throughout the house when they are still in the egg. It’s so cute.
