12th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

I may have to adjust my thermostat once a week just slightly but I keep my incubator in a temperature steady room and that makes a huge difference.

I also have four to six thermometers in my incubator at all times... So I know the temperature multiple areas at one glance.
Ooohhh I see. Mine is in the bathroom. 😅

I didn't realize cool spots was a thing until this hatchalong. So I ordered four thermometers near the beginning of the hatchalong. They are supposed to arrive today. :he I tried to find some locally but all sold out. Also all incubators sold out except for the Little Giant I have now.

I'm not sure if it is normal or not but my little guys don't often chirp much before they are ready to hatch so hopefully she is fine! :fl

Sometimes for whatever reason they just don't make it but it sounds like you are doing everything you can to give her the best chance possible. If she happened to pass at this point before even absorbing the blood vessels it wouldn't be because you didn't help in time.

Is there still plenty of ventilation? Higher humidity might cause more issues getting enough oxygen if there isn't good ventilation.

I can relate to staying up all night worrying about chicks, hopefully she'll have made you worry for nothing!
Thanks for the encouragement, I think she's okay! The egg I put in on the 15th just hatched. I noticed the pip about 12 to 15 hours ago. Already out and drying off. (A little yolk attached, but hopefully it'll be okay, it doesn't look too bad.) Apparently, all the chick needed was time... and a swift kick in the butt from her sister. :gig

...as you can see, the aim was perfect. :lau This chick gave the other two eggs (I think the third may be dead) a kick and they rolled around and somehow managed to stop so I could see inside still. 😂 The egg I was concerned about is already halfway around!

And it looks like I have another Rhode Island Red! 😁 Which is exciting because I put in six eggs from this hen last year and none were fertile... this time around, I have four RIR so far! And two RIR + SLW! And two more eggs hatching! I hope to get all 8!

How many have finished hatching? If there are others that are still actively working on hatching from the same batch of eggs, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Rather than counting the hours I typically go by how the rest of the hatch is progressing. If most of the chicks have hatched and I'm looking at the final few stragglers that haven't made any progress, that's when I start considering an intervention, unless I see something unusual that definitely needs a hand sooner.

Though I will admit 36 hours since an internal pip is a long time.
Gotcha! There are only three live eggs left for this batch, but this was among the last four eggs I added. I expected them to be a day or two later than everyone else. 😁 This is good to know, thanks!

Oh sorry for the confusion - it was 36 hours after the external pip, not internal. 😅 But the chick pecked out at a slightly odd place, so maybe she wasn't positioned right? Looks like she is coming along now!
