I've been told pullet by one person about a week or two ago. I just don't understand why the tail feathers are so different. He/ She is getting a bunch of new feathers in around the saddle area and I can't tell if they are coming in pointy or not.
The Brahma is 2 1/2 years old. The speckled Sussex is 6 weeks older than the BR. So you can get an idea of the size of the bird and red face compared to an adult.

My other barred rock is not red in the face and has shorter tail feathers.

I would say pullet. Judging by her color. Females are darker in color than males. Males are very light and have thicker white barring. Her comb is also smaller than you think for her age. Shes just a big girl.

I agree. The redness of her comb and wattles just means that she is nearing the time when she will begin laying.

Bobbi if Michael OShay says she a pullet then you can bet he is right. Told you the pros would help - to me they just look like really lovely chooks, so I guess you will have to go Roo huntng for cow****. Glad Red is doing better - more eggs lol

LOL! Whoop whoop gives me too much credit. I sometimes miss the gender of the birds on these posts, and I'm sure there are lots of BYC members who are better than sexing these birds than I am. But hopefully I'm right on this one.)

Thank you everyone. :) I'm actually relieved. I was planning on a rooster next year. I want to do some research and know a little more about what I'm looking for. I'm very happy with all hens. Whoop whoop your right, more eggs! :D thanks again everyone. I can quit thinking about it now.

@Michael OShay no definitiely credit where credit is due, you spotted my little monster before it even knew. But all you guys are very good - you can spot a roostr a mile off lol

Hi Bobbi1979! I know you already got your answer. I just wanted to say I have two BR pullets about the same age as yours. Their feathers also started to grow in the saddle/tail area. One started turning red in the comb and face, and started growing her wattles. The other one not. I got them together when they were a couple of days old so they are the same age. Have yours started laying yet? What are the white birds?
