13 week Barred Rock pullet or Roo?

Hi Giannini. Yes my birds are the exact same story. I was so confused by her. Last night when I picked her up she full out squatted. No eggs yet. They are 16-17 weeks now. I have two white Orpingtons I got with the barred rocks. My neighbor had a white Plymouth rock and a speckled Sussex she gave me. They are about 20-22 weeks. I really like how the barred rocks and white orpingtons look together. This is when they were younger but its still how they hang out today. :)

Yesterday they discovered my flower bed. They didn't eat any plants but they stepped on a few.:)

You have very pretty birds. What breeds do you have? Are your barred rocks just sweet and calm? I love their personalities.

Hi bobbi1979. I love how your hens lay together! I have 8 chickens altogether. First I bought 6 week old chicks. 2 BR, 2 RIR, 1 SLW, 1 BO. When they were about 10 weeks old, I saw an ad for some pullets. The people had FOURTEEN barred rocks, 1 white leghorn, and 1 welsummer. The two "odd hens out" were at the bottom of the of the pile, and you could tell they hadn't eaten as much as the barred rocks. Of course those were the ones that came home with me. For the most part all of the girls get along. Foggy, the white leghorn was picked on a little when they first went into the big run. I had them in a dog crate separated from the rest of the hens to make sure they were healthy. The personalities of the chicks has changed as they have gotten older. One of the BRs used to like to sit on my lap. Then one time when I was in the coop she flew up on my shoulder and acted a little dominant. She didn't like it when I pried her off of me..that was Ethel Mertz. The other one, Betty Rubble was a little standoffish. Her comb recently turned red, and her wattles started to grow. She started talking like crazy. I still make a habit of going in there in the evening with a chair. I take a small container of mealworms. They LOVE their mealworms. So I can entice them up on my lap. I catch all of them one at a time, and give them a couple of worms while they get their chicken massage. They STILL try to run away from me. LOL. OH...the all love EARWIGS!

Wow your situation is so similar to mine. My 2 BR and the 2 white orps I bought at our feed store. They were a couple days old. When they were about 4-6 weeks old my neighbors 21 year old daughter gave me her SS and white rock. She got chick fever but had no where to keep them. They ran in the garage. Didn't know what grass was or dirt. (they are about 4 weeks older than mine) The first day I had them they were so confused. It took months for them to eat bugs. They did catch up though and now love their bugs. I'm going to try earwigs. Great idea! I never thought of it. Not to smart on my part since they are everywhere. :) Anyway they never had a problem being together but still to this day the 4 stay together and the 2 hang together. They forage together also but when they split it always that combo. :) I also have 3 adult chickens that are about 2 1/2. One buff Brahma named "Tiny". She was the smallest, ironically turned out to be the biggest. I knew nothing about chickens. :) the other 2 are golden sexlinks. Feather picking bullies to the new guys so they are separated. Tiny takes care of the new chickens. She's awesome. I want a couple light brahmas next year and a couple SLW. Like yours. Sooooo pretty! Obviously I'm heading towards a all white/black flock. I would love a hamburg too. :) I also get a Roo next year. So weird to me that I turned into a chicken lady. Lol I love them. some are really tame and sit on my lap, others still keep their distance but they all come running for treats. :) I start getting eggs in august! So exciting. Tiny lays almost everyday. One of my sexlinks lays everyday also but the other one stopped laying a month or so ago. They burn out faster than most other breeds. When do you expect eggs?
