So I have 5 pullets, my top girls are 13 week speckled sussex. This morning one isn’t leaving the coop, I went out and brought them some scrambled eggs and she came out and barely pecked at them and then she took a few sips of water. I checked her for mites, checked her vent, but didn’t see see anything unusual. When I left to go get some ice to cool down the bath I have for them she went back in. Just sitting on the floor of the coop. It’s pretty hot outside, but the run is shaded this time of day. Anything I should be watching for?

Help! I’m worried.

@rileycassandra I suggest you continue to monitor her. You mentioned she’s pecking at the food and drinking. She may just prefer to be in there right now… where she feels most comfortable out of the heat. It could be affecting her. The diarrhea could be from excessive water intake… especially if she’s not eating that much. Many chickens eat a lot less during hot weather. You could try placing her feet into some cool water to see if that helps to perk her up. You can also give her some electrolytes in her water.

Thank you, that’s great advice. I’m going to get some electrolytes. I did just see her come out and step into the water bath so that’s good.
