Pretty exciting stuff. DH and I had a date candling the eggs! Pretty fun, and better than watching a movie etc and much cheaper! LOL ! We have 6 eggs looking good (under a tiny bantie) and she is doing a great job! So sweet too, she grumbles a little when we lift her off the nest but never tries to peck us. We are going to leave her with the chicks for a few weeks at least. Do you think we need to set up a brooder area or will they be fine with Momma to keep them warm etc. Can I leave pine shavings down for them all or do I still need to do the paper towels over the litter initially. I am assuming that momma will teach them where the food is and water etc. Am I right?

You don't need to set up a brooder if a momma is raising the chicks. She and the chicks should be separated from any other chickens, though. Just make sure to provide food and water, and that the waterer is set up so that the chicks can't drown. Momma will teach them about eating and drinking and she will keep them warm when they need it.

Good luck with your hatch!!!
