Here is a pic of my 14 week red sex link. All she wants to do is chill with us in the gazebo the last week or so. By looking at her does anyone here think she is close to first egg?

At 14 weeks? I don't think so! Be patient, that first egg will come when you least expect it.

I realize 14 weeks is very early on but I have heard of some starting this early. I was just wondering what people thought according to her red comb etc. I was thinking she is within a couple of weeks however I could be wrong...any other comments?

There really is no way to tell - while the reddening of the face/comb/wattles can be one clue of them approaching the point of lay, it is not a guaranteed indicator and many birds will redden up and still not lay for several weeks or longer. Are you seeing any other signs or readiness showing in your bird such as the submissive squat, investigation of nests, etc? I, personally, never start thinking about seeing eggs before the 18-20th week, that way if it does happen at 16 or so it is just a pleasant surprise but I've not spent several weeks obsessing over it and making myself crazy.

It is always possible.

Is she showing any other signs? Squatting for me was the first real sign that the girls were about a week or so from laying. Besides the signs of maturity, my girls become very friendly before they laid their first egg. Jumping on my lap, etc. My sex linked girls started laying around 20 weeks.

My RSL are 18 weeks and I just got my first pullet egg. I would say she is close, but it is likely to be a few more weeks yet. Is she squatting yet? My girls have had dark combs for a month or so and started squatting about 2 weeks ago.

No she is not squatting....she's just been overly friendly. I just thought by the redness she might be getting close.....if yours have been red like that for a month then you just answered my question. Thanks

She has a bigger comb and wattles than mine who is about a week and a half older. I thought my RSL would be first to lay but my RIRs look like they might be first out of the gate. Don't forget to post in the first egg thread when you do find that first little gem!

My earliest RSL layer laid her first egg at 13 weeks 5 days, so yes, it's very possible. She looks very ready to me!

Thanks again for the replies. Those last 2 posts was exactly what I was looking for. A comparison. I know its very early but I have read on here that there have been RSL's that laid before 15 weeks so I thought I might be one of them. Lol
