14 week red sex link

Wow that's very nice...almost 14 weeks...did she lay consistantly after her first egg?

She did! and does! In fact, it made my wife like her so much she named her and pestered me to promise not to cull her and give her an official "pardon" when her time comes in a couple of years.

She was our only layer for over 2 weeks and then another came online right around 16 weeks. She did start squatting a couple days before that first egg, now that I think about it.

Well, I have that one that's red....I have another that isn't far behind her...the combs on the other 3 have hardly started to develop yet. I'm thinking those 3 will be well into 20 weeks before they start laying unless some dramatic happens real fast. Lol

If it helps, I've got 6 of 22 laying right now and we're right at 18 1/2 weeks. So aside from "Lynn" and a few others, most of them are just along for the ride so far

She has a bigger comb and wattles than mine who is about a week and a half older. I thought my RSL would be first to lay but my RIRs look like they might be first out of the gate. Don't forget to post in the first egg thread when you do find that first little gem!

My RIR's were the firs to lay to, and boy did she put up a fuss about that egg!!!

We thought someone was dying!!!!

She squatted for me this morning. Only once so far but she squatted. Maybe I was right...hopefully....

so glad to see this thread tonight as I was thinking of coming here for advice on this very topic. My 15 week 5 day old Red Sex Link, Bertha has just in the last couple days become VERY friendly, runs to me whenever I come outside where free ranging in the back yard, and does the squat thing if I reach for her back. Her face is quite red and her wattle and comb more pronounced and red as well. I thought maybe it was too soon to be expecting any eggs from her, but after reading this thread I'm thinking I should open up the nest boxes tomorrow! (I've had them blocked to discourage anyone sleeping in them!) I know it could be a few weeks yet still, but the signs are definitely there. My others, an Australope and two Easter Eggers are the same age as Bertha and also red faced but not overly friendly or squatting.... I expect another month for them...

I would definately open the nests. If you have problems with sleeping in nests put them up on the roost just before it gets dark...I had that problem so I had to build a roost higher off the ground. It sounds like she may be getting close. Do you have a picture of her?
