I was looking at one of my 10 month old Sebright cockerel, and noticed he’s growing Spurs. I’m positive Sebrights are supposed to be spur-less. Will it be a bad idea to breed him for show quality chicks?

He hatched from one of a dozen eggs we got from a neighbor last April.I don’t know, but I looked on here http://www.sebrightclub.co.uk/ and there’s pictures of sebright roosters with small spurs on there. It also doesn’t say anywhere that they can’t have them. Did you get your cockerel from a breeder?
Definitely compare him to some show sebrights to make sure he matches the standard otherwise, too.He hatched from one of a dozen eggs we got from a neighbor last April.

They have spurs in all the sanctioned shows in the U.S. (relooked at my videos, just to make sure) Also, if you’re serious about showing Sebrights, I have Paul Holm’s contact up in the Napa area. He develops champions - and it’s the way to go… show quality birds will also have a much different temperament vs hatchery/pet quality. The cost, and maybe the effort, will be the same whether one raises pets or champions.View attachment 2593867
