145 days and not one egg yet?????

I got 4 new chickens on 18 Jan. Probably a few days old. now in mid June and I have yet to see one single egg from any of them. And no, they are not Roos. I've looked everywhere in the yard and run. Not even finding egg shells. They are in with an older hen who is putting out so they should be getting the message to lay and where to lay.

Has anyone ever had new chicks go this long before laying?

What breed are they? Different breeds take longer to start laying than others.

Breeds like Buff Orpingtons can take 6-7 months to lay eggs.

sussex, leghorn, orpington and a barred.

my last orpington didn't take 6 months

I don't think I've ever waited more than 4 months

I'm betting you'll start getting eggs soon! Most breeds start right around 5-6 months.

Most of mine took 6-9 months last year. A few didn't start until the next spring

6-9 months? In ten years I've never had them go that long before starting

There are so many variables. They aren't machines and there is no control over when they will start. Even breeds that "usually" start at a certain age can have a lot of variability. As long as they are acting normally, eating, drinking, growing, droppings look good, etc. then I wouldn't worry, they will start laying when their bodies say it's time.

Different chickens have different starting times. Like how different people habe puberty at different times. It really depends on the individual.
