Hi guys,

I have a neighbor that has one peahen, that has already laid 15 + eggs this year, and that number is still increasing. This peahen will lay on average an egg every 2-3 days, and this peahen is 11 years old. Is it normal for a hen her age to give out soooo many eggs? If so, do you guys think that a lot of these eggs will be good (My neighbor has a peacock that is 5 years old with this one hen. This peacock only has access to this one hen.)? The reason why I ask is my neighbor is running out of chickens that are broody and she has 6 eggs right now that are not being set on. She is getting a lot of other eggs from other peahens as well. So do you guys think my neighbor will have a better chance at hatching some chicks if she used eggs from her other hens?

I never thought a person could have too many peahen eggs.

Thanks for any help.

Peas can and do live over 20 years.. some folks poast they can live up to 40 years in captivity so i am sure they will lay eggs into the late teens.
Pea eggs are taisty or they could be sold.
I also have to many eggs i stopped collecting them.

This is a bit confusing.
Your neighbor's peahen keeps laying because her eggs are being taken away.
If your neighbor doesn't want more eggs she should stop taking them away from her hen(s).

I am sorry I am not good at putting my questions into words. What part is getting you the most confused?

You don't need to apologize! You didn't confuse me at all.
Sorry if that sounded like a criticism, that was not at all intended!

I'm just not sure, if your neighbor has too many eggs (which seems to be the case if she is "running out of chickens that are broody and she has 6 eggs right now that are not being set on"), why she keeps taking them from her peahen(s) (which will encourage the peahens to keep laying more eggs).

Please forgive me for not being clear!

LOL, now I am confused. Sorry, apology in advance, I just had to giggle at the two commas, 6 parenthesis, one set of quotes and 6 fragments followed by the second sentence.

Back to the question. If your neighbor stops taking the eggs the peahen will eventually decide she has laid enough and will sit on them herself. If she keeps taking them, the peahen will continue laying through the entire season with shorts breaks between clutches.

Peahens have been known to lay three or more clutches under certain circumstances. We got 25 or more from one peahen last year.
