16,000 Brown Egg Layers for Adoption, Carolina Waterfowl Rescue

Check out the link I provided. The OP found confirmed that the calves were orphaned and not from the same mother. There is also a link to the rescue organization for the chickens.

I kind of figured that. I thought that BYC would be able to help out somehow. I guess some folks will try to find fault in everything.

I really think BYC has had a great hand in helping place these chickens. I know I am going to contact them and from what I understand now they do not have to be picked up until January -- hopefully by then we will be organized enough to take a large group of them. We got the word out so maybe by word of mouth too these chickens will find good homes.

I don't know if I can talk my dad into letting me adopt some. I would love to though! Maybe I can talk him into one or two...but...he's already complaining about the feed bill

If they don't have to be picked up until January, then I'll keep this in mind for now, and see what I can do later

The chickens were part of a court order surrender from what I understand. They pushed the court date back til may so the chickens cant be released. Knowing the court system they may end up not releasing them at all. So we will keep people posted as the situation progresses. The reason they are all being health checked is becuase another group is holding them and providing the care while the case is resolved. They are all under a veterinarians suerpvision and have been checked so that they can quickly dispurse them when the time comes, knowing many need to leave the state and its a usda rule. Its not too much work actualyl since they have a vet on staff he can do a blanket health cert so one truck load of chickens can have one piece of paper saying 1-1000 chickens wera ll included blah blah blah. For our state at least, and they only have to be tested for pullurom.
