16 1/2 year old gander sick.

Update: The problem with his eye is, Luxated ( lense )w/ anterion displacement. The lungs....Increased opacity to air sacks. New question, if he has gizzard worms what is the medication to give him, where would I purchase it from, what would be the doseage for him, he's 11 pounds. I took a stool sample into the vet this a.m., results won't be back until tomorrow or Monday. I would like to get him started on the med as soon as possible, I feel tthat's what is wrong with him. He eats excessively, but not a good amount, he's also scooping up dirt quiet a bit. The crop is not impacted, it's empty. I am in such a state of panic for fear of losing him. I feel sick to my stomach. I pray someone has an answer for me. Thank you all
Again @casportpony would be the best one to give you directions on which worm er would be best. I know she recommended safe guard liquid worm er or paste for another goose on here that may have gape worms and the dosage is 0.23 ML per pound orally for 5 days.

What does this mean increased opacity to air sacs?

Call you vet and ask about worming him for capillary worms, gapeworms and gizzard worms with Safeguard (Fenbendazole) at 0.23ml per pound orally for five consecutive days. Also ask about trying something like Amikacin in case he has a bacteria that's resistant to enrofloxacin. A friend of mine just went thru this with some of his and they has a respitatory bacterial infection that was resistant to Baytril.

I can tell you my vet told me the best wormer would be valbazen. It's takes care of most of your worming issues. I know I've used it for gape worms.

Hi LadyHaleyHalo 1,

I'm down here in the flatlands/low desert of AZ.

A 16 1/2 yo gander is the result of pure devotion, tenacity and love and while I don't have any medical advice to give, I just wanted you both to know someone's cheering for you and I'm keeping you both in my thoughts.

I only wish that did more.

Might I ask, what's you little one's name?

His name is HaleBop. I'm in the high desert-low mountains. Outside of Prescott. Fecal results came back today, no parasites. My vet is waiting for one more result to come in. Checking for giardia, I really don't think he has that. He's taken a big interest in digging in and swallowing dirt. My avenues are running out, I feel so helpless. He is so hungry he eats excessively, and his crop feels empty . Increased opacity means. There is fluid in his lungs, but not alot . He was on a 14 day course of Baytril, maybe that didn't work.
I have 3 vets at two different clinics on this. All of this started after he injured his eye. Don't know what the correlation between the two would be. Will keep you all updated as to how things are going. I have made many notes from info posted. Thank you.

Any one mentioned tube feeding? again @casportpony is really good at walking member through tube feeding.. He really needs some nourishment. Doers his eye look like it is healing? giardia is from a parasite in standing water right? or protozoa my sons puppy had it when he got him..

@casportpony have any idea why he would be eating dirt like he is?

It's a great wormer, but it's not as eat to get as Safeguard, so that's why i suggested Safeguard. Curiously, what dose did your vet tell you to use for gapeworms?

I think they eat dirt when their is a problem in their intestines. Just went thru this with a turkey that was eating nothing but mud.

So what did you do K? advise?? @casportpony

I suspect that the goose is eating dirt because it has a some sort of GI disturbance. With three vets worming on this I'm hoping they can come up with a treatment plan. My treatment for my turkey was 5 days worming, two days Baycox, 5 days metronidazole and 5 days Baytril.
