16/8 Intermittent Fasting, has anyone tried it?

Pics
I did stop smoking 25 years ago, but I think my food anxiety is related to it. I can avoid overeating by eating regularly. If I fast, though, I want to overeat.
They say your body adapts eventually to lesser calories and fasting. I am sure not everyone does but try sticking with it. This is what I was saying earlier, traditional diets, eating throughout the day aways had me really hungry. But I am noticing with this long fasting and short eating window, I have become more stable and not as hungry or craving food like crazy. It took several days into this method, so maybe give it more time to see if you don't lose the desire to overeat? Insulin/blood sugar plays a part in our desire to eat, it feels like to me my insulin is becoming more stable in my body and I am just not as hungry as I usually was on traditional methods if eating or grazing all day.

Oh and FABULOUS on quiting smoking! A very dear friend of mine started smoking in her teens, smoked pretty heavy all her life and was diagnosed with Lung cancer 3 months ago at the age of 61. She is now in the hospital clinging to life, it went to her brain from her lungs and she is terminal. :(

I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

I applaud anyone who quits smoking. Everyone in my family did or does, except me. It finally killed my sister with her FOURTH cancer, lung cancer. You'd have thought she'd have learned with the first/second/third one.

I am so sorry about your sister. :hugs They say smoking is as addicting as heroin, one of the hardest habits to quit. I get it, but yes, after one cancer diagnosis you would think you'd never pick up another cigarette again.

I think because not everyone that smokes turns up with cancer, this can be a smokers ticket out of not quitting? My dad and his dad were chain smokers of filterless cigarettes. Neither of them died from cancer, which is incredible in its self. Both made it to 86 and 92, respectively. Smoking is just not worth the risks though. I have never wanted to up my chances of disease or early death from my lifestyle choices, but this is just me, I've always been obsessed about good health.

Read the book, The Case Against Sugar. It's eye opening.

What is T2D? I don't recognize that abbreviation.

I haven't mentioned any specific diet to my hubby. He needs to lose about 15-20 lb, and I'd like to lose about 10-15. I think since some of his clothes are tighter now, he's kind of conscious of the issue.

I went GF about 5 years ago. He isn't. I was recently looking into a paleo diet, but I haven't even thought of mentioning that to him. He surely wouldn't go along with that.

At every physical I've had, my blood sugar has been fine. But man oh man, I can feel it when it's crashing, and if it goes far enough, I'm shaky, and can turn into a real grump.

This time of year, I could probably do 15/9, easily. In the summer when it's light at 5:30 am and stays light till 9 pm, I'd have more trouble. I get up about sunrise so that I can let the chickens out, and I have to lock them up at sundown. (An auto door is not an option with my coop.)

I'm not making excuses! Whoever said that the mornings got easier ( not wanting to eat the table! I know how that is!), thank you for the encouragement.
T2D is my abbreviation for Type 2 diabetes. Which can be controlled and it can be reversed with diet and without pills.

Well, I am at day 18 with IF 16/8 along with a 1200 calorie diet. I started at 133 pounds and now I weigh in at 125 pounds. They say this type of fasting naturally pushes you into ketosis during the 16 hour fast and wow, I am not only loosing weight faster than the standard diets I have tried in the past, but yeah, its all fat loss. I have lost inches already. I am also rowing and walking/hiking 30 mins each a day. So not excessively.

I have to say this about IF 16/8, it does take self control. Although maybe after I stop losing weight and return to a maintenance diet, it will get easier. My Hubby is doing this with me, he does not need to lose weight but always suffered with bad heartburn. On this method of eating, his heartburn is COMPLETELY gone. My environmental allergies have reduced greatly, and my insides feel detoxed and clean. I am loving this and am going to continue with this method as long as possible, well after I reach my target weight loss goal. I break my fast at 7am and stop eating by 3pm.

Anyone still doing their fasting? I’m 4 weeks 3 days in and I’ve managed to shift 11 pounds off my backside. I’m trying to restrict calories to 800 per day with only 2 meals and 1 fruit snack. Plenty of exercise with work during the day (horses) but I’m going to start to running again on a morning now it’s getting a bit lighter. I certainly don’t feel as sluggish as I did! Looking back now I was eating A LOT of crap!

Oh this is fabulous Kim, I am so glad this method is helping you lose weight and feel so much better!! 800 calories is tough to stick to, make sure you are getting enough vitamins and especially minerals. Your jobs are very demanding!

I have since done a lot of research on intermittent fasting and it really helps the body in so many ways. Not only is this the proper way humans should eat, but it stabilizes blood sugar and slows your body's response to sugar ingestion. It trains the body to use fat only for fuel instead of using muscle mass which it tends to do when blood sugar is always high. It stimulates your body to maintain and rebuild muscle, which is so important to our health. It reduces the body's inflammation, lowers blood pressure and cholesterol, helps with intestinal issues. They say it slows aging as well. I am hooked and will continue to fast 16 hours a day as long as I can.

I am 5'4", I started out around 133 pounds at the begining of this year. At the end of February, approximately 8 weeks later, I was down to 117 pounds, so 16 pounds lost! I can tell it was all fat loss, I look leaner than I have at 117 in the past. I didn't feel weak or tired like I have from other standard past diets. The fat just melts off with this method. Every day I looked thinner. I am loving this method, I feel so much better! So far I am holding steady at 117 and am happy with this weight.
