Yay, for baby chickies! I have 5 Dark Cornish chicks from a staggered hatch right now. One surprised me by hatching on Wednesday in my starter incubator. Poor thing got a rub blister from the turner (it's doing fine now). I've had a baby a day hatch since then. These 5 hatched from a clutch of 9 eggs I found under my Dark Cornish broody. She was originally on her own clutch, but all those eggs broke or rotted. I gave her 6 chicks, and she rejected them, so I put her back with the other two from my breeding trio. I thought both my hens had stopped laying so I wasn't checking. The second hen had started laying and the eggs were being incubated by the broody from when they were laid. That is why I've hatched a baby a day for the last 5 days. I have two more eggs (two others failed early on). I'll candle them tonight to see if there is any more hope for them.
Makes me so sad because we were actually going to keep back one of the males for breeding.
