We have 16 new babies in the hen house. We had two broody hens and set eggs under them. Don't you know, it worked! We have babies. The chicks are doing awesome, and the moms are doing a really good job with them. We've raised batches of chicks in the brooder before and it was always a lot of work. I didn't fully enjoy it. Doing it the old fashioned way with the moms has just been great. It's almost no work!

I just got my 22 new chickies in the mail Wed. at midnight. Was up most of the night watching them and being amazed at how small they are, so vulnerable and precious. Just pray no problems with these little tykes. I too have my first broody hen sitting on some eggs so will see what happens with those eggs. I've been wanting to see a mama hen and her babies so I hope I do get to see that. So I'll have several generations so will have to figure out how to take care of them all and incorporte them into the mature flock at the appropriate time. I have a coop I can section off into 3 parts so one part is for the mature, one for the mama and her eggs and the third/newest addition is for the 4 day old babies. Plus a friend has some Easter Egger eggs in her incubator for me so I guess I am for sure a chicken lady! I hope this is it. I keep adding more and more!
