Okay, half the folks on here know I had power out for about 16 hours for all this ice storm buisness. I had set some eggs that were in 10 days, veined and looking great right up until the power outage. My bator got down to 55 degrees here in the house because I didn't bother moving it, I figured not much use because I had NO WAY to keep it remotely warm enough plus I had 15 3 day old chicks to contend with. Well after the power came back on today, I plugged in the bator to get it back up to temp because I had another setting of eggs that the cold should not have affected. I left the other eggs in, just for the heck of it...just to see really. Well, I just candled and was pleasantly suprised to find that EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM is alive and kickin!!! I am amazed they survived!! I honestly thought they would all be dead, but not a single one is harmed at all!! I guess folks were right on telling me not to give up on them! I've had shorter outages kill my hatches, so I am happy!!!

Woohoo, I'm happy for you! One time last year I had a silkie egg in the bator, one of my silkies went broody so I put it under her, then she got up in the afternoon and never sat on it all night, and the next morning I put it back in the bator, ...........and now that silkie is sitting on 4 eggs that were in the bator from my silkies, but at least she's sitting on them.

She had 4 under her, my hubby thought he found an egg one morning and put it in the fridge, well after flipping out, I put the egg back under her. So she had 4 under her again, but another silkie decided to join her, now they each have 2 under eachother. My one other silkie laid another egg, and that one was under her too but I took it out. I have the original 4 marked with an x.

I've read that up to 12 hrs can't be too bad. i have a battery back-up that keeps power on for a little while.
HOW'S THE SMOKING???

Ive had hens leave the eggs for almost 2 days before we noticed, we put em under another hen and all of them still hatched. They are pretty amasing, them eggs and chicks..........
