My three RIR's are were all bought from Agway, presumably from the same hatch. They are now 16 weeks or so. one of the three reds has a more pronouced comb and wattle - could samantha be a sam?

Sam or Samatha?

It's hard to tell from those pictures. Do you have any full-body shots of her/him?

I dont see a rooster. Personally. But what do I know. I dont like RIR's, thats what I grew up with. It seems in my memory that by that size the roos had some greening coming in on their feathers.

Ask and ye shall receive:

The one with the larger comb is behind and to the left

I think it might be a roo. Redder comb and larger wattle. Does it squat when you try to pet it. All my pullets did and all my roos didn't.

I still say pullets, my cockerels were pretty obvious at this age, the feathering is female as well from what I can tell.
This is a pic of Peckerhead at around 17 weeks

Noooo! No roosta's puh-lease! Lol, i will have to try the squat test.

TY, Redhead - i can breathe a little easier - I would not mind having one roo, but my neighbors would

jjdesch,
Its a hen...

It seems in my memory that by that size the roos had some greening coming in on their feathers.

In true RIR's both the hen and the rooster have green in the neck feathers
(even at that age). The hens have what looks like a small green necklace around there neck.
( production reds hen hardly ever have the green in there neck )
