16 weeks, 1st egg

We are getting an egg per day now, still very small and only one gal is laying so far (she’s actually laying as I type this, I hear the egg song from the coop 😂🥚) Anyway, had our first breakfast yum!!

Another gal started laying so we’ve now been getting 2 eggs a day or sometimes every other day. However, yesterday we found these 2 on the coop floor!! Not sure if it’s 2 new gals who did it or bad ones from the ones who’ve been doing well?

Just keep an eye on them. Most likely new layers. Is it possible for you to place a camera in the coop? Your girls will get the hang of it. Very soon, you'll be getting 5/6 eggs everyday.

I got a small tiny egg today. I am not sure if a new layer or an old layer dealing with this heat.

We got 3 good eggs yesterday and again today, still very small but otherwise perfect. If it happens again I’ll try a camera, though I’m not sure I can tell them apart on video. And it is also very hot here too. 🥵
Thanks so much for your response!

Got a second egg today, perfect shape and she laid it in the nest box with the fake eggs. Yay. However, it’s super small, do they get bigger with age? I compared it to a store bought large egg. View attachment 3870085
I have 10 pullets that are about 17 weeks old. One of my red sex links layed her first egg a few days ago. It was a perfect tiny 1/4 sized egg! It was so cute! Then she layed another about 5 days later, same size. I am hoping they get bigger with age & time because they are even smaller than my bantam's eggs! 😅

Aren’t the first eggs fun?! That first breakfast was good too. They ARE so tiny! Today I had a double yolk!!! Made an egg McMuffin 😂🥚🥚 Yum.

Posting egg stories here instead of a new thread each time…
Last night one of the gals was running with something and yelling like she just hit the chicken lottery! It was an empty eggshell but it was rubbery. Felt like a balloon. I can only assume someone laid it in the yard and not the coop. Ugh

Yeah seems like they do that when they first start laying. They don't know when they are laying and sometimes the egg just fall off their booties in random places 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Beautiful job. I'm waiting for my first egg now. Still probably a couple weeks away. Still very eggciting
