16th Annual BYC Easter Hatch-Along

Pics
I had no activity going on at all. No chriping, no rocking, etc. I went into work for the afternoon, came home and this is what I had...

First one ever! This day 20 for me, two other eggs that I can see have pipped so far.

Lockdown time! Six precious eggs made a 3,600-mile journey—one turned out to be infertile, and the remaining five are now in the hands of fate. Among them: 2 White Leghorns, 1 Easter Egger, 1 Olive Egger, and 1 Copper Marans. Whatever makes it will be spoiled rotten!

On a spontaneous whim, I also decided to incubate three mystery eggs—some sort of jungle fowl mix (your guess is as good as mine). They went in on the 5th, and I’ll be hand-turning them in an old-school DIY incubator. Believe it or not, that crusty aquarium has welcomed everything from finch chicks to baby parrots into the world.

Last night I moved the hen that was hatching eggs for Easter (Freckles) into the XXL dog cage brooder... well as I picked her up to move in the dark, there was cheeping, and out pops a chick from under her leg in the new spot. Then I saw 3 more chicks in her old nest. What? They're due on Sat! Maybe I lost track of the days...

One Lavender Mottled I'm so excited about!

Meanwhile, the incubator is cheeping. No pips yet. I know I set it a day later, we were so busy. Plan to stick them under Freckles. I must say Freckles is the nicest broody, I can lift her wing and stuff chicks under without her trying to eat me.
