First time using power tools or building anything outside of school shop projects. Quite satisfied with the end result and especially glad I didn't stick with using a prefab coop for the housing unit.
To get started, I spent a Saturday with some buddies and we all learned as we went along. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be and I believe anyone can make their own coop. You'll save money and probably be more satisfied with the outcome.
Here are some details about the coop/run. There are three watering units: one small metal canister in the coop, one PVC chicken nipple system mounted to the run frame, and a large 5-gallon plastic waterer. I plan on making a PVC automatic feeder as well. There are only three egg boxes because I don't plan on getting more than 10 chickens (although I've become addicted to this hobby and my flock has already doubled in the first 2 months of starting).
A portion of the coop roof is clear as a makeshift sunlight. There is a hinted side vent that can swing open in hot weather and shut during cold months. For the roost, I used a natural tree branch I found in my backyard. Before the summer ends, I plan on installing a light in the coop and run.
Here are some extra pictures. Please comment any suggestions you may have to add or change.
