So my Golden Comets get the award for first eggs laid, no surprise really. BUT I was not expecting 3 eggs in basically a day! I've been on hardcore egg watch for about a week now. All my girls faces were turning red, and my GC's were squatting here and there. Well one was REALLY submissive yesterday, she would just run up to me as soon as I opened the coop door and squat down. I was checking for eggs every few hours and at some point yesterday evening, around 8pm, 2 eggs appeared in their roost house! Not in the boxes of course, but close! I can't describe the absolute joy I felt, I squealed like a little kid!

So this morning I was checking on everyone, giving out mealworms, and up runs one of my GC's, and she starts squatting. So I started watching her specifically, real close. She kept going upstairs to the roost, scratching around the nest boxes and singing. Then she started sitting in the exact same spot I found the two eggs yesterday evening. I walked around the corner of the coop to give her some privacy, but still where I could see her back half. After a few minutes she got up and there was an egg, still super warm! I couldn't believe it! I ran in to show my husband, who had been getting on to me for "pestering those poor chickens" and "they'll never lay with you staring at them".

So 3 eggs in 24 hours to start off, I'd consider that a good payout!

Finally got home from running errands and got the chance to taste the fruits of my labor lol! They were perfect. The shells were STRONG, I was happily surprised, perfect little yellow yolks, fried up beautifully and tasted as wonderful as I imagined they would.

Such Sweet Joy!
I still get a thrill after 4 years....course there's nothing like your first!

Fried?
I was thinking...I wish I could poach eggs like that.
You must have cut off the thinner whites?

Ha! I was thinking the same thing, "These look like really nice poached eggs." I think the white kind of doubled over on itself when I flipped them so it all kind of tucked under. Plus they were a bit small too of course. I forgot to do a size comparison photo. I think the three of them together equaled one large, maybe a jumbo egg. I finished them off in a few bites. :D
