My Red started laying at 27 weeks and the EE at 26 and 28 weeks. I think 6 months is about the time they will start to lay, in my experience. I've never had one lay before that.

Shhhh. Don't tell Nelson (my boyfriend) that you've got a potentially broody hen or he'll be sneaking eggs under her.We are now getting teeny tiny Buff Orp eggs every other day or so. One here, one there. Not much but they are beginning to lay this late- I am thrilled! One tried to make a nest today. Seriously chicken? You have laid like 2 eggs your whole life. haha!

when they squat, they lower down and pull their wings up, if you stroke their back, they will lower their heads and lift their tails, and when they are really ready, they drop their tail off to one side, it's unmistakeable.
