Today is happy day, my EE is finally squatting so maybe soon she'll start laying even though the days are shorter. Of course my Buff has been squatting for a while now and no eggs from her.
B J Hopkins, that's so awesome, they are so cute... have to keep us updated...
congrats to all who have just gotten their first eggs! it sure is fun !

She might get friendlier. In my VERY limited experience, once they get to lay, they seem to be friendlier. Yue is one of 2 Anconas. Neither would get close enough to take anything from my hand until I gave them BOSS. They would come in for that but if no BOSS, no touching. They started laying a week ago. Yue flew from the ground up to my shoulder yesterday and sat there for several minutes just because. I am 6' tall so straight up 5' just to sit with me at eye level. Still not fond of touching though. One of my not as friendly hens got out and as I was trying to corral her back in, she squatted for me, so I just picked her up. Much easier!

OK, maybe REALLY friendly! I was in the little barn putting firewood in the garden cart to take to the house. My wife was giving the girls their "almost bedtime" scratch down by the big barn. I hear "Bruuuuucceee!!". OK, this isn't a "when you get a second can you come here sort of call so I work my way around the cart to get out the door. Just as I get to the corner of the barn she says "THERE IS A CHICKEN ON MY HEAD!". So, naturally, knowing the severity of this condition and being VERY concernedI ask if I am supposed to go get the camera. She says "Um sure" but of course by the time I get back, Yue had jumped off. She'd gotten up their from the 3 1/2 foot fence just behind where my wife was standing.![]()
Frankly, if she didn't want the chicken up there. I don't know why she didn't just take it off. Of course, it is funnier her way.
